"Erec could use the power of the forest to make himself perfect and she never could." Because of this she is weaker than Erec and can never defeat him. Unlike Erec who fully embraces the Forest and the evilness that surrounds them, Rachelle refuses to do this. She rather kill herself before she turns forestborn than continue living. While most humans who become bloodbound welcome the change and want to kill and eventually become fully forestborn, Rachelle does not want this. Rachelle was a great heroine and her constant struggle of accepting herself was interesting to watch. I really just loved everything about it, especially the characters. However, I must mention it is very light on the retelling of LRRH, I found that Hodge used a few pieces from the fairy tale and the rest was very much original and I loved it. This is the second book by Rosamund Hodge that I've read! Her first book, Cruel Beauty, is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast while this book is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.
